Description:  Nine years before becoming famous as the RI's fan-painted Bicentennial unit, we see the RI 652 leading the remnant of the Rocky Mountain Rocket through Pilcher Park between New Lenox and Joliet. From what I understand, the trailers were hauling magazines from a publisher in Des Moines to be shipped out of Chicago. Like the 1275 in photo 2, the 652 survives today, stored outside at Mid-America Car in Kansas City, awaiting restoration (again).

Description:  That last car is the LA MIRADA, former observation car for the stillborn Golden Rocket. It was the only car on the RI with the tall obs windows. It, along with Golden State observations GOLDEN DIVAN and GOLDEN VISTA were converted to midtrain operation and the round ends squared off. The interiors, however, retained the rounded shape sans windows. The date is approximate here.
