PRR 4483
Description:
The WNYRHS' massive former PRR Decapod 4483 sits on display across from the old ERIE Hamburg depot. Constructed by Baldwin in 1923, this locomotive saw heavy freight service in both Pennsylvania and western New York while working for the PRR. Replaced by diesels and retired in 1959, 4483 was moved to a roundhouse in Northumberland, PA to join the rest of the PRR Heritage Collection that upper railroad management was assembling at the time. Unlike most of the other items in the collection which would eventually wind up at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, 4483 left the collection in 1963 for Westinghouse where it would serve as a static display in front of the company's western Pennsylvania headquarters for the next nineteen years, the WNYRHS acquiring it in 1982. 4483 is the last example of a PRR 2-10-0 left in existance today.

PRR 2-10-0 #4481 - Pennsylvnaia RR
Description:
Built by Baldiwn between 1922-23, this I1s class decapod was known for sheer power. Running on 62" drivers and developing a massive 250 psi boiler pressure for its 30.5"x32" diameter & stroke cylinders, this engine tipped the scales at 548,500 lb and delivered a whopping tractive effort of 102,027 lb. In 1930 , a majority of the class were rebuilt with with Type E superheater w/o feed water heaters. Note the fireman filling the tender from ther yard standpipe in this photo. No photographer listed.

Here is page 27 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4527 and #6768. #4527 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during August of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in November of 1942, and retired in June of 1953. #6768 is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in Juniata in September of 1930 and retired in February of 1955. Engine #952 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during January of 1918 and retired in June of 1957. Engine #4530 is an I-1S (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S in August of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in January of 1942, and retired in September of 1953. And engine #4179 is a B-6SB built in Juniata in March of 1924 and retired in 1955.

Here is wage nine of a 30-page booklet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "Modern Locomotives And Cars: 1939." Depicted here are PRR engines #6707 and #4530. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. Engine #6707 is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built during April of 1930 and retired in January of 1954. Engine #4530 is an I-1S (2-10-0) "Decapod" built as an I-1S in August of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in January of 1942, and retired in September of 1953.
