Monon RR Alco C628 #407 was caught in the Monon South Hammond Yard by Hammond rail fan Mark Stanek. Hisotry - Alco, 3/1964, The Alco C628 group was traded back to Alco in 1967 for C420's since theC628's were causing severe damage to the Monon rails. Alco resold them to Lehigh Valley in November 12, 1967. LV did not experience the rail damage problem that Monon did. The model continued into the Conrail era where they were eventually scrapped in 1978. |
