Southern Pacific upgraded SD9's 4450 and 4451 were at the engine house at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, having come in on a special train. The railroad bought 150 of these units between 1954 and 1956, and 76 of them had boilers for passenger service. Between 1970 and 1980 144 of these were upgraded and renumbered, but only the 4450 and 4451 retained their boilers. |
