NJ Transit held an official unveiling of their new "dual-powered" locomotive at Newark Penn Station on 5/11/11. The ALP-45DP is touted as the "first of its kind in North America" (FL9 notwithstanding). These locomotives will be able to operate as a typical diesel-electric in non-electrified territory or as a straight electric locomotive, drawing power from overhead catenary. There are currently 26 on order and they will be constructed in Germany. |
