Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-May of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8614 and #8667. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8614 is an AS-24M built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #8667 is an AS-18AM built in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight. Also note the day-glow orange N-5C caboose #477825, as well as the Santa Fe Railroad refrigerator car. |
