SP train No. 5, the westbound ARGONAUT, was preparing to depart from Union Station in New Orleans behind Alco units 202 and 203. At this time, construction was underway on New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, with the new express building going up on the other side of the 202. The two platforms here were built so that IC, SP and MP (GCL) trains could continue to operate while the old station was removed and the new station was completed. (approximate day of photo) |
