Northbound Coal. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Columbia Crossroads, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4632, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in January of 1931, and retired in January of 1960 after 37 years of faithful service. It's become disabled and is actually being towed at the end of a northbound coal train near Columbia Crossroads. Also visible is PRR N-5C cabin car #477859. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-20). |
