AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Bill Price that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 13 August 1951. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6161, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during 1944 and retired in April of 1959 after just 15 years of revenue service. It is pulling a mixed cargo freight train around the Curve on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. |
