| Here is page seven of a seven-page article by Harry T. Sohlberg entitled "Horseshoe Curve." It was published originally in the November 1941 issue of "Mutual Magazine," page 26. (This is actually a reprint of an article published in the March 1941 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 28-35.) Partial Caption: "No. 24 slips downgrade on one of the inside tracks. No. 24 is an afternoon maid-of-all-work passenger train from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3733 and #1339. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #3733 was built during February of 1920 and retired in April of 1956, while #1339 was built during April of 1918 and retired in February of 1956. |
