Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken near Newport, Pennsylvania, on 24 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5764 and another E-8 whose number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5764 was built in November of 1952. In this context, they've just passed VIEW Tower with a passenger train on its way to Harrisburg and points East. Note the string of empty 50-ton hopper cars belonging to the Berwind-White Coal Mining Company heading back to the mines of Western Pennsylvania for more loads of bituminous coal.
