This image at the former Carrollton Avenue Station in New Orleans was looking north across the South Carrollton Avenue Underpass towards Carrollton Junction, where New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal’s EASTERN and WESTERN connections diverged to the right and left. The photo was taken as the remaining platform shelter was being dismantled. The station originally had two platforms serving three tracks and was first used when NOUPT opened in 1954. The third track, which had been on the left, was removed about a year earlier, and use of the station ended when Amtrak began on 1 May 1971 or shortly thereafter. |
