At 5:38 PM on Saturday 31 March 1984 Amtrak train No. 1 – the westbound SUNSET LIMITED – was stopped at the station in Lafayette, Louisiana. The train was powered by F4 326 with P30CH units 710 and 721. This station had been built by the Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) in 1912 but was severely damaged by a fire in 2001. The city restored the building, and it reopened in 2007. It was one of several depots along the Sunset Route in Louisiana which were set back from the platform. |
