Tom Beckett	General	Too bad the photographer of these shots didn't include a wider view here. Red Bank was the junction of the NY & Long Branch-today's North Jersey Coast Line to Bay Head-and the Southern Division main to Winslow and points in south Jersey. The famous Blue Comet, from Jersey City to Atlantic City ran here. The station is an old victorian building that, I think, still stands. After CR startup, the line to the south became the Southern Secondary, and was served by a gaggle of Conrail locals based in the small yard just to the south of the junction. When I last saw it, in the early 80's, they were using GP 15-1's. I think a short line runs it now. And NJ Transit runs the trains on the Long Branch, which was once the province of PRR K 4's, and later E 7's and E 8's-I think the last E 7's to run in the US ran here; and it was the last stand of the K 4's, whose last run was in November 1957. The CNJ used camelbacks here, and later the famous double ended Baldwins, and later the CNJ only GP40P's	2/28/2024 5:49:06 AM

Built by Alco in June of 1950, this road switcher served until the CNJ merged into Contrail in 1976. It was renumbered CR #5377. No date or photographer was listed for this photo.
