In celebration of the former Pennsylvania GG1 #4877 now serving the New Jersey Transit, the New Jersey Historical Society threw a party complete with an "Celebration" cake in honor of "Big Red" after a beautiful paint job setting it back to the "Big Red" color. It was also in anticipation of its retirement in October 29, 1983. In 1991 after Big Red's retirement in 1983, the NJT donated the locomotive to the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey. Currently it is stored at the Boonton yard and hopefully will be part of the future New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center. Unfortunately, the avid rail fan who took these photos was listed. |
