Title:
PRR 9806, EF-15A, c. 1951
Description:
AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9806 and three more "EF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9806 was constructed in April of 1951. In this context, this A-B-B-A set is rounding the Curve with a manifest freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Note the Fireman inspecting his train and the grey brakeshoe smoke produced by the train on Track 2.
