Description:
Milwaukee Road GP38-2 353 at Bensenville, Illinois on February 28, 1982, Kodachrome by Gib Allbach, Chuck Zeiler collection. It appears that this particular locomotive was a boomer, first working for the Milwaukee Road as number 353, then Soo Line 4503 through merger in 1986, then sold to National Railway Equipment, leased to South Eastern Coal (SECX) as 3820, then leased to C&NW in December 1991 as 4711. Upon the merger of the UP and C&NW it was assigned UP 2075 in June 1995 (not renumbered), assigned UP 2349 in September 1997 (not renumbered), assigned UP 849 in December 1999. It was retired from the UP due to expiration of lease from CIT Financial Group and rebranded as CEFX 849. For information after about the year 2012, you're on your own.
