Title:
CCH 1210 and 1201
Description:
Former New Haven locomotives (NH 1210 and 1201) work a passenger train just south of "CP Middldboro" on Conrail's Middleboro Branch in 1984. The yard track looks rough but the Main Line was in pretty good shape. It had some welded rail and the old NH CTC signaling system was still in place. In about two miles the train will enter state - owned track operated by Bay Colony Railroad. The state spent ALOT of $ to rebuild this line from MP 1.5 (fnd of CR property, these 1.5 miles were retained by CR to access Ocean Spray) to Hyannis. When the work was done the track was beautiful and good for 50MPH (probably more thaP that) for passnger trains. Unfortuneately PC removed the CTC on this portion of the Middleboro Branch several years prior to this photo. CCH was an excellent place to leasn the finer points of train handling since many experienced NH Old Colony Division employees worked with the younger guys to make CCH work. These guys knew this territory likc the backs of their hands. Throw in a couple of old New York Central guys and a couple of furloughed CR guys and you had the making of a good "Railroad College". There were s™veral CR New England Division hourly and supervisory employees who put alot of effort in to moving these passenger trains. It was a shame but the Bay Colony seemed to have not miked the CCH very much. Many former CCH employees went on to work for Conrail, Amtrak and MBTA in operating and supervisory positions. Exact date of photo is unknown. I wooder where these fine locomotives ended up? Exact date of picture is not known.
